From Friday 21 to Monday 24 June 2024, some people from our group stayed at the Mas de la Balma naturist campsite (Vallespir, Northern Catalonia), resuming a beautiful tradition we started last year to celebrate the summer solstice (Sant Joan).
Wanting to exchange the noise of firecrackers for the song of the birds, the bustle of the city for the serenity of the forest, and the light of the street lamps for that of the twinkling stars, we arrived at the campsite on Friday afternoon and eagerly set up our brand-new eight-seater tent; a warm and cozy home in the middle of the woods. Tired as we were, we soon fell on the mattresses and blankets after an invigorating dinner cooked on the stove!

The new day arrived lazily, and at the pace of each one, we were able to visit and enjoy during the morning the two most emblematic spaces of La Balma, the artificial pool (pla d’aigua) and the gorge called “Paradise“. We had moments of silent contemplation of nature, reading, and pleasant conversation, soaking in the icy mountain waters.

Having eaten, the gentle rain invited us to linger inside the spacious tent, playing board games and chatting.

Sunday morning we went on a naturalist excursion following the red route of the campsite and we were able to learn a lot about the vegetation of the area thanks to Edgard’s knowledge. We collected some interesting plants which, once back in the tent, we cataloged and pressed with the idea of making an 18th-century herbarium! Outing after outing we will be adding plants to the book, which we have titled “Herbarium Iuvenium Naturistium Cataloniæ” (‘Herbarium of the Young Naturists of Catalonia’).

In the evening, we went up to the farmhouse to share with the rest of the people at the campsite the tasty Sant Joan dinner, enlivened by live music, and the lighting of the bonfire, followed by traditional dances, songs, and tributes. The Canigó flame returned, one more year, to fill our hearts with joy and comfort.

The next day at noon we were already leaving the campsite behind, after soaking for the last time in the artificial lake. Farewells are always sad, especially when they end a stay in a beautiful place and with people with whom coexistence is so easy and pleasant… But we’ll be back soon; we will fill the forest with laughter again, and naturism with youth! 💚💜
